Ana Roš was proclaimed the best female chef in the world for 2017 by World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Her restaurant – Hiša Franko – is sitting firmly on the 38th spot in the world (10 places higher than the previous year) (*).
Furthermore this year, in Barcelona, she was named the 37th best chef in the world (*). And recently, in Madrid, she became Ambassador for Gastronomy Tourism for UNWTO (*).
Who is Ana Roš?
Ana Roš was a dancer and a professional skier who came to the culinary world by chance. Her restaurant is located in the rural West Slovenia in a village that is considered remote even for Slovenians.
This makes her achievements even more extraordinary. She is basically the one who put the Slovenian cuisine on the world’s culinary map. Her signature dishes are known for including seasonal local products from amazing Soča River valley.

In Madrid Ana Roš, the best chef in the world, is participating in the Residence Project (*). This is an event organized by the culinary counseling agency Mateo&Co that is happening every year. The aim is to bring renowned national and international chefs to Madrid for an extraordinary pop-up experience. In the past this event hosted other best chefs in the world like Grant Achatz, Juan Manuel Barrientos, Harry Sasson, Leonor Espinosa, Jorge and Mark Rausch, Nacho Manzano, and Mauro Colagreco.
For this event Ana Roš moved the entire Hiša Franko’s crew to Madrid. And the temporary pop up place even imitates her original restaurant. As she explained for Slovenian TV (*) she also took with her as many local Slovenian products as she possibly could to give her guests in Madrid the most authentic experience possible although far away from home. Amongst other things they will be able to taste Slovenian honey, herbs, cheese and of course the prestigious Slovenian wines.
