Safety is one of the main concerns while travelling. So no wander people are asking themselves is Slovenia safe to visit. The short answer to this question would be yes, it is. In fact, it is one of the safest in the world!
But don’t trust just our word for it, after all, we are trying to sell you a trip to Slovenia… Keep reading and we’ll show you several international reports that confirm what we’re saying. In the end of the article there are also some unique advices if you are thinking of travelling to Slovenia.
At the end of November 2019 the organization International SOS released its Travel Risk Map, already 11th in the row. The map predicts which places will be the safest and which the most dangerous to travel in 2020.
According to the report Slovenia is ranked amongst the safest countries with insignificant risk together with Nordic countries, Switzerland and Greenland.
And for the curious – the most dangerous countries for travelers are Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan.
The criteria was harsh and included several factors amongst which we can find more severe threats like political violence, social unrest and violent crime. But they also took in consideration emergency and security services, industrial relations, probability of natural disasters and even transportation infrastructure.
So yes, driving in Slovenia is safe. Just follow the rules, don’t drink & drive and buy a vignette for the highways and you’ll be perfectly fine.
Not only them, also the Global Peace Report for 2019 puts Slovenia on the top. According to them, Slovenia is classified as the 8th safest country in the world.
It can be found in the company of countries like Iceland, New Zealand, Portugal, neighboring Austria, Denmark, Canada and Singapore.
So as you can see, Slovenia truly is safe to travel. However, there are still some occasional chances of being pick pocketed. And even though practical chances of being a victim of a crime are close to none, we recommend you being careful and follow common sense rules.

– Try not to mix Slovenia with Slovakia. Those are 2 different countries that don’t even share a border.
– Try not to fall in love with a Slovenian girl. Slovenian guys rank the first in the world on how many choirs they do at home and Slovenian girls will expect that from you as well. Consider yourself warned.
– Don’t go underestimate Slovenian mountains and go hiking with improper gear. If something happens to you, you will get rescued, but you will also get into the national news since there’s really not much other going on here…
